Biography Jaap Lancee
The main research interest of Jaap Lancee is the effect of self-help therapy to treat nightmares and insomnia. He has written a self-help intervention for nightmares based on cognitive restructuring (imagery rehearsal therapy - IRT). He expanded his area of expertise by working on self-help for insomnia based on the proven effective Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Currently, Jaap is testing these interventions via large randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Furthermore, Jaap developed several popular scientific websites. His work is done in close collaboration with Dr. Victor Spoormaker and Prof. Jan van den Bout.
Jaap finished his master thesis about nightmares at Utrecht University in 2005; since 2006 he is supervising bachelor theses and teaching courses at Utrecht University. In April 2006, Jaap started a research project financed by the ’Fonds Psychische Gezondheid’, which was continued in 2007 for an additional two years. Since 2009, he is a PhD candidate at Utrecht University. In September 2009 he started the VGCt traject for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and since January 2010 he is working as a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist at the Ambulatorium of Utrecht University.
