Biography Dr. Jaap Lancee


Jaap LanceeThe main research interest of Dr. Jaap Lancee is the effect of self-help therapy for nightmares and insomnia. He has written and validated a self-help intervention for nightmares based on cognitive restructuring (imagery rehearsal therapy - IRT). He expanded his area of expertise by writing and validating a self-help protocol for insomnia based on the proven effective Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Currently, Jaap is working on an advanced internet application for insomnia. In a large randomized controlled trial, he will test the additional effects of feedback to unsupported self-help. Furthermore, Jaap developed several popular scientific websites. His work is done in close collaboration with Dr. Victor Spoormaker and Prof. Jan van den Bout.

Jaap finished his master thesis about nightmares at Utrecht University in 2005. In April 2006, Jaap started a research project financed by the ’Fonds Psychische Gezondheid’, which was continued in 2007 for an additional two years. April 15th, 2011 he received his PhD for his dissertation: Cognitive-Behavioral Self-Help Treatment for Nightmares and Insomnia. Since May 2011, he works as a postdoc at Utrecht University financed by the 'Fonds Psychische Gezondheid' and 'Innovatiefonds Zorgverzekeraars'. In September 2009 he started the VGCt traject for Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and since January 2010 he is working as a therapist at the Ambulatorium of Utrecht University.
